Working with photos

Supported files

Click Upload your photo in the left sidebar, or drag a file onto the canvas.

• Photos: JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC and HEIF.
• Camera RAW Pro: Canon (.cr2, .cr3), Nikon (.nef, .nrw), Sony (.arw), Fujifilm (.raf), Panasonic (.rw2), Olympus (.orf), Pentax (.pef) and DNG.
• Video: MP4, MOV and WEBM. See Working with video.

RAW files

A RAW file is the unprocessed data from a camera sensor. It holds more highlight and shadow detail than a JPG, so it stands up to heavier grading. Luttie decodes RAW files in your browser with LibRaw, the same open-source decoder many desktop apps use. A large file can take several seconds to decode on a slower computer.

RAW decoding is part of Luttie Pro. Without Pro, save a JPG from your camera software first and load that.

Your photo stays on your computer

Loading and grading a photo happens entirely in the browser. It isn't uploaded to Luttie's servers. The exceptions are features that have to send something: AI Grade and Grade Chat send an image to the AI model to analyse it, and Send to phone uploads the file you choose so your phone can download it.

Zooming and the sample image

Use the zoom control under the canvas to inspect detail, and double-click to zoom back to fit. When you open the editor without a file, it shows a sample image so you can try the controls straight away. The label under the canvas tells you which one you're looking at.
