Normalise the footage before you grade it
Most footage from the Blackmagic Camera app is ordinary Rec.709, so a creative LUT goes straight on with nothing before it. The exception is Apple Log on iPhone: it records flat, and a look LUT alone leaves it washed out, so use a LUT that includes the Apple Log to Rec.709 conversion. The Android app doesn't record log. BRAW from a Pocket Cinema camera is different again: DaVinci Resolve applies its colour science when it decodes the file, and your look goes on top.
The workflow
Pick a LUT, or build your own
Download a free .cube from the Luttie library, no account needed. For a look of your own, grade a frame in the Luttie editor and export it as a 17- or 33-point .cube (LUT export is part of Luttie Pro).
Get it onto your phone
AirDrop, the Files app or any cloud drive works. Luttie Pro's Send to phone gives you a QR code that downloads the .cube straight to the phone.
Import it in the app
Blackmagic Camera's LUT settings let you import a LUT, then choose it from your loaded LUTs. It takes 17- and 33-point 3D LUTs; if a file won't load, check its size.
Preview it, or record it
A display LUT only changes what you see, so the recording stays clean and you can change the look later. Recording the LUT into the clip bakes it in for good.
Shooting Apple Log? Convert in the LUT
On an iPhone recording Apple Log, use a LUT that includes the conversion to Rec.709, such as the Luttie Apple Log pack, or one you export from the editor with the film engine's Source set to Apple Log.
No Blackmagic pack yet
There is no paid Blackmagic pack. The free LUT library downloads without an account, and the editor runs in the browser with no install, so you can convert and grade Blackmagic footage without buying anything.
