Your first grade

This walks through one full edit. Use your own photo, or the sample image the editor opens with.

1. Open the editor and load a photo

Go to luttie.app/editor. Click Upload your photo in the left sidebar, or drag a file onto the canvas. JPG, PNG, WEBP and HEIC photos all work. See Working with photos for RAW files.

2. Fix the basics first

Open Basic Correction from the rail on the right. Work top to bottom:

1. Temperature and Tint: if the photo looks too blue or too orange, move Temperature the other way until white things look white. Tint fixes green or magenta casts.
2. Exposure: make the whole image brighter or darker.
3. Contrast: more contrast makes darks darker and brights brighter.
4. Whites and Blacks: set the brightest and darkest points.

Correction first, look second: a creative look applied over a colour cast makes the cast worse.

3. Add a look

Now pick a style. The quickest options:

• Creative panel: click a LUT category and choose a preset. Each is a finished look you can apply in one click.
• Film panel: pick a negative stock such as Portrait 400 and the image goes through the film engine.

4. Compare with the original

In the left sidebar, switch between Before, Compare and After. Compare shows a split you can drag across the image. Your eyes adapt to a grade within seconds, so checking the original often shows you've gone too far.

5. Take it away

• As an image: click JPG or PNG under Export in the left sidebar. You'll need a free account, and free exports carry a small watermark. See Exporting images.
• As a LUT: click Export LUT Pro to save the look as a .cube file for other apps. See Exporting LUTs.
