C-Log3 holds roughly 12 stops and shows you none of it until something converts the curve. These convert to Rec.709 and carry a look in the same file.

Log footage is recorded flat on purpose: it holds highlight and shadow detail far outside what a display can show. A look LUT does not expand that range, so applied straight to log the image stays washed out and the highlights stay dead. Convert to Rec.709 first, then grade on top. Technical transform, then look, in that order.
Shoot C-Log3, not C-Log2
C-Log3 is the practical choice on the R-series: less noise than C-Log2 and enough range for most work.

Canon's curve holds shadows well. Protect the top end and lift the bottom afterwards.
Convert to Rec.709
One conversion, at the bottom of the node tree. These LUTs already contain it.
Grade on top
Correct exposure before the look, or the LUT will faithfully convert an underexposed frame.

No. These already contain the C-Log3 to Rec.709 conversion. Applying Canon's underneath converts the footage twice.
RAW stills do not need a log conversion. The decoder renders them to sRGB, so you can grade straight away in the Luttie editor.
