Cool Blue Steel — Free Moody Cold LUT
A cold, desaturated grade with blue-shifted shadows and steel-toned highlights — perfect for night scenes, tech, and anything that needs a moody edge. Free for DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, and CapCut.
Not every scene calls for warmth. When you want tension, isolation, or a slick futuristic edge, you go cold. This LUT shifts the entire image toward a cool blue-grey palette that feels sharp, deliberate, and cinematic.
What it looks like
Shadows push toward deep blue-navy, mid-tones go desaturated and cool, and highlights land on a pale steel-white rather than warm cream. Skin tones cool significantly — this is intentional and creates a stark, dramatic look. Saturation is reduced overall, keeping the palette tight and controlled. The result is clean and precise, with a slight filmic grain feel from the shadow treatment.
What it's good for
- Night and low-light scenes — shadows become rich and dimensional rather than just dark
- Tech, product, and corporate — cool tones read as premium and modern
- Urban and architecture — city environments feel gritty and cinematic
- Sci-fi and thriller — creates visual tension without any additional work
- Winter and overcast footage — leans into naturally cool lighting rather than fighting it
How to use it
Download the .cube file and import it into your NLE:
- DaVinci Resolve → Color page → LUTs panel → right-click to import
- Premiere Pro → Lumetri Color → Creative → Look → Browse
- Final Cut Pro → Effects → Custom LUT → assign the file
- CapCut → Adjust → LUT → import
If skin tones feel too cold for your shot, apply a secondary correction to warm up skin after the LUT. In DaVinci Resolve, use the qualifier to isolate skin and add a small positive orange push in the hue vs. hue or hue vs. saturation curve.
