Black and white never goes out of style. This LUT strips the colour from your footage and replaces it with a luminance-faithful greyscale that holds detail in both highlights and shadows — no blown-out skies, no crushed faces.

What it looks like

The conversion follows standard luminance weights, so skin tones land in the mid-tones (not too bright, not muddy), foliage renders darker than sky, and blue eyes go light while red lips go dark — exactly how you'd expect a well-exposed monochrome frame to look.

There's a slight contrast lift in the mid-tones to give the image presence without pushing into heavy-handed territory. The result feels like a clean scan, not a filter.

What it's good for

  • Portrait and documentary — faces hold their shape and depth
  • Street and architecture — geometry and texture read clearly
  • Dramatic scenes — shadows become deliberate, not muddy
  • B-roll cutaways — instantly elevates generic footage into something intentional

How to use it

Download the .cube file below and import it into your editor of choice:

  • DaVinci Resolve → Color page → LUTs panel → right-click to import
  • Premiere Pro → Lumetri Color → Creative → Look → Browse
  • Final Cut Pro → Effects → Custom LUT → assign the file
  • CapCut → Adjust → LUT → import

Apply it as the last node/layer in your grade so it sits on top of any exposure or contrast work you've already done.
