Petal Pack — 8 Soft Pastel Film LUTs

Most LUT packs push. More contrast, more saturation, deeper blacks — looks built to survive a phone screen at arm's length. This one does the opposite. Eight .cube LUTs built around lifted blacks and an early highlight rolloff, which is the pairing that actually reads as soft. Pastel hues on their own don't do it; if the toe is crushed and the highlights run to clipping, no amount of pink in the shadows will make an image feel gentle.

What's inside

• Petal Soft — the reference look. Muted, low contrast, faint green in the shadows and pink through the highlights. Start here.

• Water Lily — cool and green-leaning, with the shadows pulled toward cyan. Water, gardens, overcast light.

• Morning Bloom — brighter and warmer, a third of a stop up. Backlit windows, early light, anything already airy.

• Blush — warm rose through the highlights with the skin range deliberately held back, so faces stay neutral while everything around them turns pink.

• Dew — the softest in the pack. Cool, clean, and the flattest curve here. Product shots, stills, minimal scenes.

• Pressed Flower — the faded one. Warm paper tint in the blacks and the heaviest desaturation, kept short of sepia.

• Meadow — greens lifted and nudged away from video-green, everything else left alone. Foliage and outdoor portraits.

• Dusk Petal — dusty rose, low contrast, the moodiest of the eight without going dark.

Which one should you use?

Pick by the light, not the subject. Flat or overcast light wants Petal Soft or Dew, which add nothing that isn't already there. Warm or backlit scenes want Morning Bloom. Anything green-dominated wants Meadow or Water Lily. If the shot already has strong colour and you want it quietened rather than tinted, Pressed Flower does the most work.

A note on skin

The fastest way to ruin a pastel grade is a flat desaturation — it takes the colour out of faces along with everything else and leaves them grey. Every look here pulls saturation down globally and then pushes the skin range back up on its own, so faces keep their warmth while the rest of the frame goes quiet. Measured across the pack, skin hue moves by 1–5°, which is well under what the eye reads as a shift.

How to use them

1. Download the pack — every look as a separate .cube file.

2. Load one in your editor — DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, VN, or LumaFusion.

3. These are gentle by design, so they take being pushed. If a look isn't doing enough, raise the intensity rather than reaching for a stronger one.

Shooting log?

These are built for standard Rec.709 footage and normal photos. If you're on S-Log3, D-Log M, C-Log or N-Log, apply your camera's conversion LUT first, then stack one of these on top.
