masks
you can now change one part of a photo and leave the rest alone. open masks, add one, and drag it into place on the photo.
two kinds
- linear: a gradient that's full strength on one side and fades out. the usual way to darken a bright sky.
- radial: an ellipse with a soft edge. lift a face, or invert it for an off-centre vignette.
what each mask changes
every mask has its own exposure (in stops), contrast, temperature, tint and saturation, on top of the rest of the grade. turn on the overlay to see where a mask reaches. you can use up to eight.
masks are in image and video exports. a .cube LUT only maps colour to colour, so it can't know where a pixel is, and LUT exports leave masks out. masks are part of pro.
