prores, now in chrome and edge
a prores clip used to stop at "can't open" in chrome and edge. neither browser can play prores, and that was most of the clips that failed to open. now luttie decodes a frame itself.
- pick the frame: the clip opens as a still, with a pick the frame to grade slider under it. every prores frame is stored on its own, so any point in the clip takes a fraction of a second.
- every prores flavour: proxy, lt, 422, hq, 4444 and 4444 xq.
- log stays log: the frame keeps the clip's own encoding, so a log clip comes in as log for the camera panel's log inputs and the color space transform.
- then take the look back to the clip: the frame is a still, so grade it and export a .cube for resolve, premiere or final cut. playing and exporting prores video in the browser isn't part of this.
- all in your browser: the decoder runs on your computer; the clip isn't uploaded.
safari plays prores as it always has.
